About Mulino Lenzi Symposium

In the heart of the Mòcheni Valley, the Wood Sculpture Symposium transforms the historic Mulino Lenzi in Palù del Fersina into an open-air workshop for a weekend. Sculptors work live under the gaze of visitors, shaping raw wooden logs while the millstones of the ancient watermill continue to recount the milling traditions of the Mòcheni community. An event that weaves together craftsmanship, culture, and mountain identity in an authentic corner of Trentino.

A sculpture symposium in the Mòcheni village

The Wood Sculpture Symposium takes place at the historic Mulino Lenzi in Palù del Fersina, the highest and most characteristic village in the Mòcheni Valley, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). For an entire weekend, the mill's courtyard becomes an open-air workshop where sculptors work live, transforming simple logs into striking creations under the curious eyes of visitors.

Art and mill tradition

Each edition revolves around a theme that links sculpture to the local area. The event celebrates the deep relationship between the valley's landscape, woodworking, and the ancient craft of grain milling, still alive thanks to the Mulino Lenzi, a watermill restored to working order and now preserved as part of the Trentino Ethnographic Museums.

  • Live sculpture: artists shape wood in real-time, showcasing technique and mastery.
  • Exhibition of works: at the end of the process, the finished sculptures are displayed to the public.
  • The mill in action: visitors can discover how the ancient watermill works and learn about the milling traditions of the Mòcheni community.

Palù del Fersina and the Mòcheni community

Palù del Fersina (Palai en Bersntol) is part of the Mòcheni German-speaking linguistic minority, of ancient Bavarian origin, which has preserved its own language and numerous traditions. The Municipality of Palù del Fersina, nestled among mountain farmsteads, forests, and trails, offers an authentic setting that makes the symposium much more than a simple art event: it is an opportunity to immerse oneself in the cultural identity of the valley.

An event curated by the Mulino Lenzi Association

The event is entirely organized by the Mulino Lenzi Association, which also manages the mill's opening, guided tours, and educational activities related to the art of milling. A project that combines volunteering, the enhancement of historical heritage, and a passion for wood craftsmanship in one of the most evocative corners of eastern Trentino.
