About Wolf March

The Wolf March (Marcia del Lupo) is a hiking event that takes place every summer, typically in July, in the territory of Cortino, a small town in the Province of Teramo nestled within the Gran Sasso and Laga Mountains National Park. Organized by the Ammandì 64040 APS association in collaboration with the Teramo section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), it features a medium-difficulty route through quiet trails, forests, and Abruzzo landscapes, starting from the village of Altovia. It is a perfect opportunity to discover the authentic nature of the Laga range at a slow pace.

A hike in the heart of the Laga Mountains

The Wolf March is a hiking event held in the territory of Cortino, a small town in the Province of Teramo, Abruzzo, set within the Gran Sasso and Laga Mountains National Park. Conceived and organized by the Ammandì 64040 APS association in partnership with the Teramo Section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), the event attracts hikers, families, and mountain enthusiasts every year who wish to rediscover the trails and villages of the Teramo Laga area at a leisurely pace.

The route and the environment

The traditional route starts from the village of Altovia di Cortino, an ancient sandstone hamlet currently undergoing restoration, and winds for about 6 kilometers between 1,188 and 1,477 meters above sea level, lasting approximately three and a half hours including stops. It is a medium-difficulty trail, suitable for those with basic fitness who want to immerse themselves in beech forests, high-altitude meadows, and views of the Laga peaks. Along the way, it is not uncommon to encounter traces of the wildlife that populates the Park, from the Apennine chamois to the wolf, which gives the march its name.

A territory to be rediscovered

The Wolf March is much more than just a hike: it is a way to promote the mountain villages of Cortino, which are often depopulated, and to share their history and traditions. The walk crosses an unspoiled territory where silence, beauty, and the power of untouched nature become the true protagonists. At the end of the route, it is possible to stop for lunch at the Ristorante La Pineta, in the locality of Fonte Palumbo, to savor the genuine flavors of Abruzzo mountain cuisine.
