The Widespread Market - Cellars, Wine and Cuisine is an enogastronomic event that transforms the historic center of Colonna, a small village in the Castelli Romani area near Rome, into a large open-air trail of taste. Ancient cellars carved into the tuff and the town squares become shops and tasting points, where visitors wander from one sample to the next to discover the flavors of the Tuscolan territory.
The event was launched in 2025 as the inaugural celebration of the year in which Colonna was awarded the title of Italian City of Wine, a recognition that highlighted the winemaking identity of this corner of Lazio, home to the Monte Compatri-Colonna DOP and centuries of farming tradition.
The heart of the festival is the wine of the Castelli Romani, an expression of the volcanic soil of the Alban Hills. With a tasting glass and pouch, visitors follow an itinerary through cellars and squares, sampling labels from local producers. Alongside the wines, the public will find:
The Widespread Market is more than just food and wine: the squares come alive with live music, dance performances, and entertainment that accompany the stroll through the cellars. The atmosphere is that of a convivial village festival, where alleys, cellars, and squares like Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II welcome both residents and visitors.
Overlooking the vineyards that slope down toward the Roman countryside, Colonna is one of the smallest towns in the Castelli Romani but boasts an ancient winemaking vocation. The Widespread Market enhances this legacy and invites you to discover an authentic village, just a few kilometers from Rome, where wine is still a community affair. The event is part of the calendar promoted by the Cities of Wine network of the Castelli Romani, together with initiatives by the Municipality, the Pro Loco, and local associations.
