The world's largest race arrives in the 'doric' capital
Every spring, Ancona transforms into a large open-air circuit for Vivicittà, the running event created by UISP that has become a must-attend appointment for those who love sport as a collective experience. Defined as "the largest race in the world" because it takes place simultaneously in dozens of Italian cities and in various locations abroad, Vivicittà is a handicapped race with a single ranking: times are recalculated to make results comparable across different courses, from Turin to Palermo, from Ancona to the foreign cities involved.
The beauty of Vivicittà is that it puts competitive athletes and amateur sports enthusiasts on the same starting line. In the Marche capital, the meeting point is at the square in front of the Doric Stadium, from which a 5 km city circuit starts: it is run twice for the competitive 10 km race, and only once for the non-competitive event. Alongside the timed race, there are fun runs of 3-5 km, designed for families, children, and school groups, which liven up the parks and squares of the city centre. All participants receive the official event t-shirt, a symbol of belonging to a large community running together.
Vivicittà is not just a race: it has always brought themes beyond the stopwatch to the streets, such as peace, the environment, rights, and the idea of a supportive Europe. The Ancona event also involves local organizations and includes moments dedicated to inclusion, with the participation of the city's correctional facilities. Organized by the UISP Territorial Committee of Ancona, the race is a showcase for the city nestled between its two seas, which allows itself to be crossed and discovered at the pace of thousands of participants.
Running through Ancona is the best way to capture its spirit: the capital of the Marche region, overlooking the Adriatic Sea and dominated by the Conero promontory, offers a unique setting for those who choose to participate. Vivicittà enhances the historic centre and the symbolic places of the 'doric' capital, transforming an April Sunday into a popular sports festival open to everyone, regardless of age or athletic level.
The 2026 edition of Vivicittà in Ancona marked a double milestone: the 20th edition in the 'doric' capital and the 40th national edition of the UISP event. The race took place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, starting at 9:30 AM from the square in front of the Doric Stadium, simultaneously with 40 Italian cities and 7 abroad, under the slogan "Peace, environment, rights, Europe". The classic format was confirmed with a competitive 10 km race and a non-competitive 5 km walk open to families and schools.
Among the innovations of the 2026 edition: a special ranking for journalists and prizes for the largest group per city and for the school with the most participants (awarded with educational materials). Moments dedicated to inclusion are planned with the participation of the Montacuto and Barcaglione correctional facilities. All participants receive the official event t-shirt.
Organization by the UISP Territorial Committee of Ancona, with local support from entities such as King Sport, CAMST Group, and FIDAL Marche.
The event takes place in spring with assembly and start from the square in front of the Doric Stadium, in Ancona (Marche). The start is traditionally given at 9:30 AM.
Two formulas are available: the competitive 10 km race (two laps of the 5 km circuit) and the non-competitive 5 km walk/run, also open to families and schools. All registered participants receive the official event t-shirt.
Registration is done through the UISP Territorial Committee of Ancona. For updated fees, procedures, and bib collection times, please consult the official UISP Ancona channels.
The Doric Stadium is located in the Adriatica area, near the centre of Ancona, reachable on foot from the station and the city centre. Temporary traffic changes may be in place on the roads affected by the route during the race.
