Retro fashion, collectibles, and handmade crafts at Opera Bertoni
The Vintage and Craft Fair has quickly become one of the most anticipated events in the Battipaglia calendar, in the province of Salerno. The event takes place within the grounds of Opera Bertoni, at Via Generale Gonzaga 100, a complex surrounded by gardens and ancient trees that provides a unique setting: not an anonymous pavilion, but an urban park where stalls are spread along the paths and under the canopy of trees.
The underlying idea is simple and infectious: to gather everything that tells the story of the recent past in one place. Vinyl records, clothing from the sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties, retro objects, collectibles, and vintage design items sit alongside contemporary artisan creations, in a continuous dialogue between what has been and what is still crafted by hand today.
The heart of the event is the exhibition area: about eighty stalls, with exhibitors from the Campania region and beyond. Alongside the authentic vintage stalls, the fair has progressively expanded its section dedicated to handmade crafts, which now occupies a significant part of the route.
The formula is a hit because it blends different audiences: those who arrive with a list of records to hunt for, those searching for an elusive garment, and those who simply stroll through the stalls with the curiosity of someone recognizing a piece of their own childhood in a toy or an old radio.
One of the most photographed moments is the exhibition of classic cars set up along the entrance avenue. The Alfisti Salernitani Group showcases their historic Alfa Romeos, creating a dramatic entrance that introduces visitors to the retro atmosphere of the fair. In the debut edition in September 2025, the exhibition of historic vehicles also included motorcycles and vintage spare parts, thanks to a collaboration with the Araba Phoenix Historic Club.
The fair also reserves ample space for gastronomy, with a food area showcasing local products. This choice is consistent with the event's philosophy, which places sustainability and the promotion of the local economy among its core pillars: the food exhibitors are a way to introduce the Piana del Sele supply chains to an audience arriving from neighboring towns.
The Vintage Fair is not just a market for collectors. Inside the area, a 300-square-meter play area with large inflatables is set up for children, while music and entertainment accompany the two days, making the visit suitable for all ages. Admission is free, and the availability of parking in the area makes the fair convenient even for those arriving by car from out of town.
Behind the event is the social promotion association APS Il Gladiatore, founded by Mirko Signoriello and Angelo Megaro, who oversee the organization, selection of exhibitors, and setup. The positive public response to the first edition convinced the organizers to double the appointment and expand the craft section.
With over fifty thousand inhabitants, Battipaglia is one of the most populous centers in the province of Salerno and the main hub of the Piana del Sele, in Campania. Its location makes it a practical base for those who want to combine a visit to the fair with a trip to the surrounding area: the temples of Paestum, the Cilento coast, and the provincial capital of Salerno are all within easy reach. A neighborhood fair, therefore, that lends itself well to becoming a weekend stop in the province.
The 2026 edition marked the return of the Vintage Fair to Battipaglia after its debut the previous September, this time with an expanded format: alongside vintage items, a vast section of handmade crafts was fully integrated, featuring original creations proposed by local workshops and exhibitors arriving from outside the region.
The organizers of APS Il Gladiatore built the exhibition route within the green spaces of the complex, among the ancient trees of the gardens: a total of eighty stalls dedicated to vintage clothing and accessories, vinyl records, retro objects, and collectibles.
The entrance avenue was transformed into a small open-air gallery by the historic Alfa Romeos of the Alfisti Salernitani Group, while the food area gave space to local producers. For families, a 300-square-meter play area with large inflatables was provided, in addition to music and entertainment distributed throughout the two days.
The event reaffirmed its stated pillars โ sustainability and the promotion of the local economy โ confirming itself as an appointment capable of attracting audiences from the entire province of Salerno.
