Vigevano for Chess is the festival that transforms the Cavallerizza of the Sforza Castle in Vigevano into a large international tournament hall. The event attracts hundreds of participants from numerous federations worldwide, including young talents and experienced players, in a historically fascinating setting.
The Tournaments
The competitive heart is twofold: the "Città di Vigevano" International Youth Tournament reserved for Under 20s, with nine rounds valid for FIDE Standard ratings, and the International Open Tournament for Over 20s, open to all, from masters to enthusiasts, with cash prizes and Elo category prizes. The top boards are broadcast live streaming.
Beyond the Tournament
Alongside the games, the event offers a rich collateral program: the En Passant cultural meetings with writers and experts, the Chess4Charity charity dinner, and DJ set evenings at the After Chess Party. The gastronomic setting highlights local products, starting with rice from Lomellina. The event is organized by Scacchistica Vigevanese with the support of the Municipality of Vigevano (Province of Pavia), the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation, and local service clubs.
Vigevano for Chess — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Vigevano for Chess, the second, confirms the festival at the Cavallerizza of the Sforza Castle from May 30 to June 2. Following the success of the first edition, which attracted over 260 participants from 14 world federations, the event reintroduces the formula that combines international competition, culture, and conviviality.
