The Arquata Scrivia book fair featuring authors, workshops, and local culture
ViaggiAMO con i libri is a cultural festival that transforms the center of Arquata Scrivia, a town in the province of Alessandria in Piedmont, into a large open-air bookstore every spring. The initiative is promoted by the Tortona Library System in collaboration with the Municipality of Arquata Scrivia, the municipal library, and local cultural associations, with the support of the Piedmont Region. The goal is to give a voice to small publishing houses and local writers, offering them the opportunity to gain visibility outside of major commercial circuits.
The heart of the event is the book fair set up in Piazza Santo Bertelli, where editorial stands alternate with a busy calendar of meetings with authors. Themes range from fiction to non-fiction, travel books to music, and botany to current events, in a program designed to engage readers of all ages. Over the years, the festival has hosted writers, journalists, photographers, and local scholars, with presentations that have drawn significant public interest.
A significant part of the festival is dedicated to children. Throughout the event, there are animated readings, morning and afternoon creative workshops, writing paths, and inclusive initiatives such as readings in symbols (AAC), accessible to everyone. In the days leading up to the fair, activities also take place in local schools, introducing children and teenagers to the joy of reading.
Alongside the books, there are photography exhibitions, literary aperitifs, and moments dedicated to showcasing typical products and local gastronomic traditions, ranging from Ligurian to Piedmontese cuisine. The event has now established itself as one of the most anticipated cultural appointments of the year for the community of Arquata Scrivia and the entire Tortona district.
With free admission to all events, ViaggiAMO con i libri represents a precious opportunity to discover independent publishing, meet authors, and enjoy a spring dedicated to culture in the historic center of Arquata Scrivia, in Piedmont.
