I Solisti Veneti and the 18th-century Venetian sacred music in the Sanctuary of Providence
The Veneto Festival is the historic concert series by I Solisti Veneti, the orchestra founded by Claudio Scimone and now conducted by Giuliano Carella, one of the most famous Italian ensembles in the world. Within the festival, the event "Nel giorno del Santo" (On the Saint's Day) brings great music to the Sanctuary of Maria Madre della Provvidenza in Sarmeola di Rubano, in the province of Padua.
The programme is a tribute to 18th-century Venice, the European capital of sacred music. Instrumental concerts and grand choral pieces alternate: the Magnificat, the Credo, the Laetatus sum, alongside compositions by Giuseppe Tartini, Tomaso Albinoni, Giuseppe Torelli, and Antonio Vivaldi. Joining the orchestra are the Iris Ensemble Choir, conducted by Marina Malavasi, and trumpeter Roberto Rigo.
The sanctuary of Sarmeola, home to the Opera della Provvidenza Sant'Antonio, offers an ideal acoustic and spiritual setting for this repertoire. The event is organised in collaboration with the OPSA Foundation and represents one of the most refined moments of the musical season in the Rubano area and throughout the Veneto region.
