The Easter Monday regatta that opens the sailing season in Chioggia
The Veleggiata dei Vuovi is the regatta that every Easter Monday opens the spring sailing season in Chioggia, in the province of Venice. Organized by the Italian Naval League โ Chioggia section, it gathers about thirty boats in the sea off the lagoon city.
More than a high-competition race, the Veleggiata dei Vuovi is a celebration of the sea that symbolically marks the restart of sailing activities after winter. The dialectal name recalls the local Easter tradition, intertwining the holiday with the passion for sailing that characterizes Chioggia.
The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Chioggia and takes place in an atmosphere of great participation and sportsmanship, confirming the city's deep connection with the sea during the spring holidays.
The 6th edition of the Veleggiata dei Vuovi was held on April 6, 2026, on Easter Monday, organized by the Italian Naval League โ Chioggia section. About thirty boats took part in the event in ideal weather conditions: spring sunshine, mild temperatures, and a light North-Easterly wind.
The first to cross the finish line was Bellerofonte, skippered by Marco Nordio, followed by 'Non c'รจ Problema' (Alessio D'Avanzo) and 'Scaccomatto' (Michele Bellemo). The regatta confirmed great participation and sportsmanship, opening the spring sailing season.
Chioggia is reachable by car via the SS309 Romea. By train to Venice or Rovigo, then by bus. The regatta can be watched from the port quays and the breakwater.
