The traveling festival by GAL Taormina Peloritani arrives in the heart of the Peloritani mountains
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Valleys of Myth and Music is a traveling festival promoted by GAL Taormina Peloritani - Lands of Myth and Beauty, involving 29 municipalities across the Ionian and Tyrrhenian areas and the Peloritani mountains in the province of Messina. Created to strengthen cultural, gastronomic, and musical networks, the event turns every stop into a celebration of local identity and food heritage, with a strong focus on sustainability and active community participation.
Among the municipalities visited by the festival is Mongiuffi Melia, a small mountain village in the Peloritani range overlooking the Agrò Valley. Here, the event brings Piazza del Carmine, the heart of the town, to life with an evening that blends flavor, culture, and folk music. The program includes a panel discussion on sustainability and conscious eating, a cooking show led by a local chef, free tastings of traditional products, and performances by folk music groups.
The central theme of the Mongiuffi Melia stop is mountain flavors: traditional peasant dishes and zero-mile products, from ancient grains to local cured meats, and from cannoli with ricotta to vastedda. The free tastings highlight the excellence of the village and the Messina hinterland, showcasing a territory built on agriculture, shepherding, and knowledge passed down through generations.
The evening concludes with Sicilian folk music, performed by local groups who bring traditional dances, songs, and instruments back to life. The event, which is free to attend, is designed as a meeting point for residents and visitors, promoting slow tourism and the rediscovery of the most authentic villages in the Peloritani area.
Mongiuffi Melia belongs to the Metropolitan City of Messina, in Sicily, and is located a short distance from the Ionian coast and Taormina. The festival offers the opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of the Peloritani mountains, amidst nature, culinary traditions, and village hospitality.
At the moment, GAL Taormina Peloritani has not yet published the calendar for the 2026 edition of the Valleys of Myth and Music festival. Based on previous editions, it is likely that the event will return in the summer, between July and August, with a series of stops in the municipalities of the Ionian, Tyrrhenian, and Peloritani areas. Information regarding dates, programs, and locations for the Mongiuffi Melia stop will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
Mongiuffi Melia can be reached by car from the SS114 Ionian road by taking the exit for Santa Teresa di Riva or Roccalumera and driving up the Agrò Valley. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, about an hour away.
Admission to the festival events is free. The appointments usually take place in the evening in Piazza del Carmine. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: it is recommended to check the calendar on the GAL Taormina Peloritani channels.
