The road race in Civita Castellana, in the heart of the Agro Falisco
The Trofeo dei Falisci is one of the most anticipated road races in Civita Castellana, located in the heart of the province of Viterbo, in Lazio. Every spring, the event draws competitive runners, sports clubs, and walkers to the city streets for a day that combines a passion for road running with the pride of a territory with a strong historical identity.
The Trofeo takes its name from the Falisci, the ancient Italic people who inhabited the Agro Falisco and the city of Falerii, of which modern-day Civita Castellana is the direct heir. Running the Trofeo dei Falisci means traversing a landscape rich in memory, between the historic centre perched on tuff rock, the deep ravines, and the streets that tell centuries of history. The race thus becomes a way to experience and rediscover the municipality of Civita Castellana and its heritage.
The race covers a distance of approximately 9.8 kilometres, with the start and finish at the Giardini Baden Powell on Via Roma. The course, primarily urban, tests runners with the typical ups and downs of the Faliscan territory, offering glimpses of the city and its characteristic landscape. The event is organised in both a competitive version, with timing and rankings, and a non-competitive format open to everyone, welcoming those who wish to participate simply for the pleasure of running or walking.
Organised by A.S.D. Civita Castellana, the Trofeo dei Falisci is now a well-established fixture in the running calendar of Lazio and the Tuscia region. The many editions held have made it a benchmark for sports clubs in central Italy, who travel to Civita Castellana every year to compete on a well-regarded course and share a day of sport and celebration.
Beyond the competition, the Trofeo dei Falisci is a moment of gathering for the city. The start at the Giardini Baden Powell, the passage of athletes through the streets of the centre, and the refreshment points along the route transform the morning into a small collective festival. It is also an ideal occasion for families and those wishing to discover Civita Castellana and the province of Viterbo by combining physical activity with exploring the territory.
