TrezzArte - Artists' Village

An artists' village on the Sea of the Cyclops

TrezzArte is the major summer artistic event in Acitrezza, the famous seaside village immortalized by Giovanni Verga's Malavoglia and a district of the municipality of Aci Castello, in the province of Catania. For a few days in August, the town literally transforms into an artists' village: the streets of the historic center, the squares, and the promenade overlooking the Faraglioni dei Ciclopi are filled with easels, sculptures, installations, live performances, and open-air workshops.

Origins and Vision

The event was officially born on August 28, 2011, from an intuition of the Centro Studi Acitrezza: to transform the village into a multidisciplinary artistic hub, breaking down the boundaries between different art forms. Since then, TrezzArte has gathered over a hundred creatives every year—painters, sculptors, photographers, artisans, shipwrights, street artists, body painters, dancers, fashion designers, and musicians—called upon to tell the story of the sea and the soul of the town. The guiding principle of the event is maximum expressive freedom and total participation, with no economic barriers for either the artists or the public.

Widespread Art and Atmosphere

More than just a single show, TrezzArte is a journey to be experienced while strolling: artists work and perform directly on the street, the public comes into contact with works as they are being created, and the entire village becomes an open-air gallery. Alongside visual arts, there is space for music, dance, photography, traditional crafts, and initiatives dedicated to respecting the sea.

Onde di Cinema and MareAcustica

Over the years, the event has been enriched with satellite events. Onde di Cinema is the short film festival that characterized the 2025 edition: works of all genres (fiction, documentary, animation, experimental) with the sea as a central theme, screened along the historic marina. MareAcustica is the musical appointment that combines acoustic music with the beauty of the Scalo di Alaggio, next to the Rodolico Shipyard, with artists dressed in white to symbolize purity and harmony.

An identity-defining event for the Ionian coast

Patronized by the Municipality of Aci Castello and created with the collaboration of citizens, associations, and local businesses, TrezzArte is now an identity-defining appointment for Acitrezza and the entire Riviera dei Ciclopi. It represents a model of popular, participatory art that enhances the village, its maritime traditions, and the deep bond between the community and its sea.
