About Trecentesca

The Cistercian Abbey of Morimondo returns to the 14th century with the Trecentesca, a major international historical re-enactment event. Over four hundred participants from all over Europe bring encampments, battles, workshops, and shows to life, culminating in the evocative re-enactment of the Battle of Casorate of 1356, fought between the Milanese army of Lodrisio Visconti and imperial troops. A dive into the Visconti Middle Ages within the setting of one of Italy's most beautiful villages.

The Middle Ages Come Alive at Morimondo Abbey

Trecentesca is a major international medieval historical re-enactment event held at the Abbey of Morimondo (Province of Milan), a splendid Cistercian complex in the heart of one of Italy's most beautiful villages. Set in the Visconti era, the re-enactment transports visitors back to the 14th century with encampments, markets, shows, and battles involving over four hundred participants from all over Europe.

The Battle of Casorate

The most anticipated moment is the re-enactment of the Battle of Casorate of 1356, which saw the Milanese army of Lodrisio Visconti clash with the imperial troops of Count Konrad von Landau. The reconstruction, meticulously detailed historically, revives one of the military episodes that marked the power struggles in 14th-century Lombardy, restoring the atmosphere and drama of those years.

Workshops, Falconry, and Medieval Culture

Alongside the battles, Trecentesca offers a rich program of educational workshops – herbalism, miniature painting, fresco, medieval calligraphy – exhibitions of musical instruments, falconry and artillery displays, and medieval music concerts. The event, organized by the Fondazione Abbatia Sancte Marie de Morimondo, thus combines re-enactment, historical education, and entertainment, in one of the most fascinating monumental settings of the Ticino Park, in the Municipality of Morimondo.
