About Tocatì

In September, the Veronetta district fills with players, ruzzole (spinning tops), trottolas (spinning tops), and flags: Tocatì, the International Street Games Festival, returns. Now in its 24th edition in 2026, it is the largest event in the world dedicated to traditional games and sports, recognized by UNESCO as the only Italian good practice for safeguarding intangible heritage. The guest country for 2026 is Ireland, with its Gaelic sports, Celtic music, and dances.

Verona, world capital of traditional games

Tocatì - meaning 'your turn' in Venetian dialect - is the International Street Games Festival that every September transforms the Veronetta district, within the UNESCO walls of Verona, into a large shared play space. Organized by the Associazione Giochi Antichi (Association of Ancient Games) with the Municipality of Verona, it is the largest event in the world dedicated to traditional games and sports, and the only Italian good practice recognized by UNESCO for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage.

Guest Country 2026: Ireland

Each year, Tocatì invites a guest country to showcase its games, music, and dances. In 2026, the spotlight is on Ireland: Gaelic sports arrive in the city, including Gaelic Football (the symbolic sport of Irish identity, a mix of football and rugby), Hurling (intangible UNESCO heritage), Camogie (the women's version of hurling), Rounders, and GAA Handball. There will also be pub games, Celtic music workshops (uilleann pipes, harp), and traditional dance.

A Permanent New Feature: Casa Tocatì

Among the new features for the 2026 edition is the opening of Casa Tocatì at Parco delle Colombare: a permanent centre dedicated to traditional games, offering workshops, educational activities, and community gatherings to discover and practice the world of play all year round. For Verona, Tocatì has become an identity-defining event that intertwines play, culture, folk traditions, and international dialogue.

Tocatì — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Tocatì, the 24th, takes place from September 18 to 20 in Verona's Veronetta district, with Ireland as the guest country: Gaelic sports (Gaelic Football, Hurling, Camogie, Rounders, GAA Handball), pub games, Celtic music and dance, and the opening of the new Casa Tocatì at Parco delle Colombare.

From September 18 to 20, 2026, the 24th edition of Tocatì, the International Street Games Festival, returns to Verona in the Veronetta district. Ireland is the guest country, bringing its traditional sports and games, music, and dances to the city. The 2026 edition also marks the opening of Casa Tocatì, a permanent centre for traditional games at Parco delle Colombare.
