The celebrations of the patron saint San Crispolto in the village of Bettona
Le Vie di Crispolto is the spring event with which the village of Bettona, in the province of Perugia, pays homage to its patron saint, San Crispolto, bishop and martyr. Throughout May, the historic center hosts a packed schedule of events that combine religious, cultural, and community dimensions.
The program alternates liturgical celebrations, processions along the village walls, medieval and Renaissance music concerts, multimedia exhibitions dedicated to the iconography of the saint, and guided tours of the Abbey of San Crispolto and the City Museum in Piazza Cavour. A common thread links each edition: the historical relationship between Bettona and Assisi, custodians of the relics of the martyr Crispolto since 1266.
Included among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Bettona preserves Etruscan walls and an intact medieval center. Le Vie di Crispolto is the ideal opportunity to discover this corner of Umbria, balanced between Franciscan tradition, archaeology, and the landscapes of the middle Tiber valley. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Bettona with the support of the Municipality.
The 2026 edition of Le Vie di Crispolto takes on a special meaning: ten years after the 2016 earthquake that had damaged its roof, the Church of San Crispolto is reopened to worship and returned to the city. The 2026 project deepens the historical relationship between Assisi and Bettona: since 1266, the Franciscans of Assisi became custodians of the relics of the martyr Crispolto, for whom the church in Bettona was built. The festival also fits into the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis.
The program includes liturgical celebrations, processions, guided tours of the Abbey of San Crispolto, and cultural events spread throughout the month. Anonima Frottolisti, an ensemble founded in Assisi in 2008 and specializing in Italian and European Humanist music, has accompanied the project since its first edition.
The complete calendar is published by the Pro Loco of Bettona and the Municipality.
Bettona can be reached by car from the E45 (Torgiano-Bettona exit) or from the SS75 Centrale Umbra. The nearest train station is Assisi-Santa Maria degli Angeli, from which you can continue by bus or taxi. Parking is available on the outskirts of the historic center.
