About The Ways of Crispolto

Le Vie di Crispolto is the event that enlivens the village of Bettona, in the province of Perugia, in May to celebrate the patron saint San Crispolto, bishop and martyr. Between religious solemnities, ancient music concerts, exhibitions, guided tours and convivial moments, the event blends faith, history and culture in one of the most evocative Etruscan villages in Umbria. The 2026 edition is dedicated to the deep bond between Assisi and Bettona and to the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis.

Bettona celebrates its patron saint

Le Vie di Crispolto is the spring event with which the village of Bettona, in the province of Perugia, pays homage to its patron saint, San Crispolto, bishop and martyr. Throughout May, the historic center hosts a packed schedule of events that combine religious, cultural, and community dimensions.

Faith, music, and history

The program alternates liturgical celebrations, processions along the village walls, medieval and Renaissance music concerts, multimedia exhibitions dedicated to the iconography of the saint, and guided tours of the Abbey of San Crispolto and the City Museum in Piazza Cavour. A common thread links each edition: the historical relationship between Bettona and Assisi, custodians of the relics of the martyr Crispolto since 1266.

An Etruscan village to discover

Included among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Bettona preserves Etruscan walls and an intact medieval center. Le Vie di Crispolto is the ideal opportunity to discover this corner of Umbria, balanced between Franciscan tradition, archaeology, and the landscapes of the middle Tiber valley. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Bettona with the support of the Municipality.

The Ways of Crispolto — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Le Vie di Crispolto takes place from May 11 to 31 in Bettona, with a rich calendar of events and religious solemnities in honor of San Crispolto. The edition is dedicated to the historical bond between Assisi and Bettona and to the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis. Among the events, the reopening to worship of the Church of San Crispolto after the 2016 earthquake.

The 2026 edition of Le Vie di Crispolto takes on a special meaning: ten years after the 2016 earthquake that had damaged its roof, the Church of San Crispolto is reopened to worship and returned to the city. The 2026 project deepens the historical relationship between Assisi and Bettona: since 1266, the Franciscans of Assisi became custodians of the relics of the martyr Crispolto, for whom the church in Bettona was built. The festival also fits into the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis.
