An author cinema festival in the heart of the Marche

La Decima Musa is the film festival that has enlivened the cultural evenings of Tolentino, a city in the Province of Macerata in the Marche region, for years. Founded in 2016, the festival brings a selection of recent author films to the big screen of the Multiplex Giometti, often presented and awarded at the most important international festivals, from Cannes to Venice. It is not just a film screening: it is a journey of discovery, designed for those who want to experience cinema as a cultural experience and not just as entertainment.

"Cinema lessons" and in-theatre discussion

The heart of the festival, fully titled La Decima Musa — cinema lessons, is the dialogue that follows each screening. It is led by Prof. Alberto Cingolani, a passionate film scholar from the Macerata area, who introduces each film and then leads the discussion with the audience in the theatre. The format turns the evening into a real participatory lesson, where spectators of all ages discuss the themes, directors, and language of the films screened. The initiative is promoted by Giometti Cinema in collaboration with UNITRE (University of the Third Age) of Tolentino, chaired by Prof. Mirella Valentini.

Two cycles per year: winter and spring

The festival typically consists of two seasonal cycles. The winter cycle focuses on January and February, while the spring cycle continues between March and April, with weekly evening events at 9:15 PM. The selection ranges from author comedies, dramas, international cinema, and titles that spark debate: a proposal that combines quality, variety, and attention to films less present in commercial circuits.

More than just a festival, La Decima Musa has become a meeting point for film enthusiasts from Tolentino and the surrounding towns in the Macerata hinterland. The atmosphere is informal and welcoming: before some screenings, a small aperitif is offered to the audience, emphasizing the convivial dimension of the initiative. With its affordable prices and focus on quality, the festival is a virtuous example of how a small town in the Marche can cultivate a vibrant film culture.
