The Roman doll and vintage toy swap meet in the Pigneto district
The Attic of Dolls and Vintage Toys is Rome's premier swap meet dedicated entirely to antique dolls and collectible toys. It takes place in the vibrant Pigneto district, within the Hotel Eurostars Roma Aeterna on Via Casilina, just a short walk from the picturesque Piazza del Pigneto. Originally created as a showcase for a niche community of enthusiasts, the event has quickly become a key reference point for the capital's collecting scene.
The exhibition spans over a century of toy history: historic dolls from 1870 to the late 1970s, often crafted in biscuit and porcelain, alongside the legendary Barbie dolls from their origins to the present day. There is also a significant focus on handcrafted artist dolls, reborn dolls, fashion dolls, OOAK (one-of-a-kind) creations, Blythe dolls, and the iconic Furga 3S Altamoda line with their original accessories. You will also find a wide array of vintage toys, including tin robots, model cars, and lithographed tin toysโtrue collector's treasures.
The day is more than just an exhibition and sale: visitors can have their items appraised by experts, trade pieces with other exhibitors, and consult the doll doctor, a specialist ready to diagnose and recommend restoration work for damaged or non-functional items. It is a fantastic opportunity for those new to this type of collecting.
Each edition features an in-depth seminar led by scholars and industry experts, exploring the history of major manufacturers, conservation techniques, and the cultural value of toys. This is where the swap meet transitions into an educational experience, bringing the public closer to the museum-grade and historical significance of playthings.
