Two evenings of stalls, talks, books, and music in the Villa Comunale of Sapri
Terre del Bussento Experience is the summer festival that every July transforms the Villa Comunale of Sapri, in the lower Cilento area of the province of Salerno, into an open-air showcase for the region crossed by the Bussento river. For two consecutive evenings, exhibition stalls, thematic meetings, books, cinema, and live music create a choral narrative of an area that links the sea of the Gulf of Policastro to the inland mountains of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.
This is neither a classic food festival nor a standard music event: the format is intentionally hybrid, placing culture, food and wine, and tourism promotion on the same level. It is an event designed to foster dialogue between those who live and work in the area—farmers, olive growers, winemakers, artisans, guides, and environmental associations—and the visitors who flock to Sapri in the heart of summer.
The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Sapri through the Department of Tourism, Entertainment, and Culture, in collaboration with the Terre del Bussento association, Fenailp, and Fenailp Sapri–Basso Cilento. It is sponsored by the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park and supported by the Salerno Chamber of Commerce; the 2026 edition saw the addition of the Gallipoli Cognato Piccole Dolomiti Lucane Regional Park and the Costa degli Infreschi e della Masseta Marine Protected Area. The festival is part of the Frontiere Mediterranee summer program, with which the Campanian town enlivens July and August across its seafront, squares, and public gardens.
Exhibition spaces open in the late afternoon and remain lively until night. Under the trees of the villa, cultural associations, institutions, producers, and local artists find their place. Among those involved in recent editions:
Each evening follows the same rhythm: opening of the stalls, entertainment for children, then a round table dedicated to a local development theme, a book presentation, and finally the concert. The panels have brought together mayors, presidents of protection consortia, journalists, and experts in traditional agri-food products; the literary section alternates between novels, poetry collections, and local history essays; the musical finale favors acoustic ensembles and Mediterranean repertoires, from singer-songwriter music to Southern tarantellas.
Sapri marks the southern end of the province of Salerno, overlooking the Gulf of Policastro and linked in the Italian collective memory to the 1857 expedition of Carlo Pisacane, celebrated in the famous poem 'La spigolatrice di Sapri'. Behind it lies the Bussento district, the river that disappears into a sinkhole in Caselle in Pittari and re-emerges in Morigerati: a landscape of gorges, woods, and villages such as Torraca, Vibonati, Ispani, and Santa Marina. The festival was born precisely to tell this dual story—coastal and inland—of a corner of Campania still little touched by mass tourism.
Access to the stalls and shows takes place in a public space and there is no entry fee: the event is designed for families, curious visitors, and vacationers passing through. The early evening entertainment is dedicated to children, while the meetings and concerts late at night are aimed at an adult audience. Those staying in the Gulf of Policastro can combine their visit with a day at the beach and an excursion to the Grotte del Bussento.
The 2026 edition of Terre del Bussento Experience took place on July 16 and 17, 2026, in the Villa Comunale of Sapri, in the province of Salerno, as a stop on the Frontiere Mediterranee summer program promoted by the Municipality. The format confirmed the alternation between the exhibition area, institutional meetings, and live entertainment, with stalls opening at 5:00 PM and children's entertainment at 5:30 PM.
The common thread was the comparison between territories: alongside the Terre del Bussento, the Gallipoli Cognato Piccole Dolomiti Lucane Regional Park, the Consortium of the Rotonda Red Eggplant (DOP), and the Costa degli Infreschi e della Masseta Marine Protected Area participated. Mayor Antonio Gentile reiterated that "Sapri continues to invest in the identity of the territory, traditions, and excellence," while association president Matteo Martino indicated the goal of building "a shared narrative through people, production, culture, and landscape."
The exhibition spaces hosted the Museo Logos of Vibonati, the WWF Grotte del Bussento Oasis, Una Goccia nell'Oceano Onlus, the Circolo Nautico Sapri, the Borsa della Cultura, along with artists and operators from the district.
Villa Comunale of Sapri, Via Villa Comunale, 84073 Sapri (SA), a short walk from the town hall and the seafront.
By train: Sapri station is on the Tyrrhenian line (Naples–Reggio Calabria) and is served by Frecce and Intercity trains; from the station, the Villa Comunale can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes. By car: take the Padula–Buonabitacolo exit on the A2 'Autostrada del Mediterraneo', then the SS517 and SS18 to Sapri. By plane: Salerno–Costa d'Amalfi or Naples Capodichino airport, then by train.
Local sources do not report any ticket: the exhibition area and shows in the public villa are free to access.
The stalls open in the late afternoon and evenings continue until midnight: bring a light sweater for the sea breeze. In July, Sapri is very busy; it is advisable to book accommodation in advance and reach the villa on foot, as parking in the center is limited.
