The Season of Prose, Music, and Recitals at the Teatro Comunale Italia
In the heart of Tuscan Romagna, along the Montone valley, the Municipality of Rocca San Casciano (in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, Emilia-Romagna) cherishes a small jewel: the Teatro Comunale Italia, a historic venue on Via Aurelio Saffi. Every year, between autumn and spring, this theatre hosts a season of prose, music, and recitals that manages to bring national-level names and performances to a town in the Apennines.
The 2025/2026 season, curated by Teatro delle Forchette with artistic direction by Stefano Naldi and support from the Municipality of Rocca San Casciano, is titled "Laughter, Tears, and Reality: Theatre That Resembles Us". It is a journey designed to speak to the everyday audience, alternating the lightness of comedy with the depth of civic theatre.
The subscription program consists of six events, plus one non-subscription performance. Among the most anticipated titles are "I Vicini Scomodi" (The Uncomfortable Neighbours), based on the novel by Roberto Matatia and directed by Giuseppe Verrelli, which tells the true story of a Jewish family overwhelmed by racial laws; "Il Circo Capovolto" (The Upside-Down Circus), directed by Andrea Paolucci and with original music by David Sarnelli, a multiple award-winner at national festivals; and "Ama, Prega, Xanax" (Love, Pray, Xanax), a theatrical and musical project by Andrea Mirò and Enrica Tesio, an ironic monologue on contemporary anxieties.
The Teatro Italia season is not just a program of performances: it is a moment of life for the entire valley community. The shows are held on Saturday evenings at 9:15 PM, in an intimate theatre where the proximity between stage and audience makes each performance personal and engaging. The public success of recent editions confirms how deeply rooted this cultural hub is in the territory.
Attending a performance at the Teatro Italia means discovering a little-known corner of Emilia-Romagna, where theatrical culture remains a vibrant and shared event.
