A prose season between Arquata Scrivia and Gavi

The Teatro della Juta Theatre Season is the winter appointment with quality theatre in the Arquata Scrivia area, in the Province of Alessandria, at the south-eastern tip of Piedmont. Organised by the Accademia della Juta (Commedia Community cultural association), the festival takes place on two stages: the Teatro della Juta in Arquata Scrivia and the Teatro Civico in Gavi, uniting two neighbouring towns in a single widespread cultural project.

«General Rehearsals for Revolutions»: the common thread

The 2025-2026 edition is titled «General Rehearsals for Revolutions» and revolves around the theme of appearance versus substance, being versus appearing, and the mask versus the face. As the artistic direction explains, the programme explores the small and large revolutions that everyone can enact every day: internal and personal ones, but also collective ones capable of shaking consciences and transforming communities. From the female footballers who defied the fascist regime to the voices documenting the injustices of the present, the shows weave together civic engagement, comedy, and poetry.

A programme between national names and new voices

The strength of the season lies in its balance: alongside well-known artists from Italian theatre and television, there is space for emerging companies and research theatre projects. The audience encounters social monologues, musical shows, auteur comedy, and narrative theatre, with performances almost always scheduled for 9:00 PM.

Theatre accessible to all

A distinctive feature of the Accademia della Juta is its policy of affordable prices, designed to leave no one out: modest ticket costs, discounts dedicated to those under 25 and under 18, and a subscription formula that rewards the most loyal spectators. It is a community theatre, rooted in the Val Borbera and Oltregiogo territory, which makes Arquata Scrivia and Gavi a small cultural stronghold for the entire area.

Two towns, two theatres

Arquata Scrivia, a historic hub between the Alessandria plain and the Ligurian Apennines, and Gavi, famous for its wine and the fortress that dominates the village, share this festival that enhances the heritage of small provincial theatres. A proposal that proves cultural vitality is not the exclusive preserve of large cities.
