The international Lindy Hop and Authentic Jazz weekend in the heart of Rome
Swingala — Rome Lindy Hop Weekend is a landmark event for Lindy Hop and Authentic Jazz enthusiasts in Italy. Organized by the Roman dance school Spirit of St. Louis Roma, the festival transforms the San Giovanni district in the heart of Rome (Lazio) into a major hub for the international swing community, welcoming dancers from over thirty countries for an entire weekend.
The educational program is the backbone of the event. Days are filled with workshops tailored to every skill level, from advanced beginners to seasoned dancers, with dedicated tracks for Lindy Hop (ranging from Intermediate to Master levels) and Solo Jazz. Classes are led by world-renowned instructors who bring their unique style and experience from major international festivals to Rome. Taster classes are also available for those looking to discover these dances for the first time.
Swing is music before it is dance, which is why Swingala dedicates significant space to live concerts and DJ sets. Evenings turn into grand social dance events where participants dance to the sounds of guest orchestras and top-tier DJs, in a festive atmosphere that continues until late at night. Competitions, such as the famous Mix & Match and the Solo Jazz contest, add a dash of friendly rivalry and plenty of fun.
The festival venues are spread throughout the San Giovanni district, a central and well-connected area of the capital, easily accessible via the Metro A line. Spaces such as Etoile 23, Crazy Gang, and Planet Sport host classes, rehearsals, and parties, allowing participants to walk comfortably between activities while enjoying the charm of Rome between dances.
Swingala is much more than an intensive course: it is a total immersion into swing culture, combining study, music, and social connection in one of the world's most beautiful cities.
From September 18 to 20, 2026, Rome comes alive to the rhythm of swing with a new edition of Swingala. Activities take place in the San Giovanni district, across the venues of Etoile 23 (Piazza Tarquinia 5), Crazy Gang (Largo Orazi e Curiazi 12), and Planet Sport (Via Appia Nuova 665), all within short walking distance of the Metro A stops.
The educational program includes five levels of Lindy Hop (Intermediate, Intermediate Advanced, Advanced, Advanced Plus, and Master) and three levels of Solo Jazz (Open, Intermediate, and Advanced), as well as an hour dedicated to rhythm & footwork and taster classes. Three nights of parties, live concerts, and competitions round out the experience.
The venues are located in the San Giovanni district in Rome, just a short walk from the Metro A stops (San Giovanni, Re di Roma, Ponte Lungo). Those arriving by train can easily reach the area from Roma Termini station via Metro A. Public transport is highly recommended due to traffic and parking restrictions in the city center.
Participation is managed through pass purchases on the official website swingala.com, with various options available for the Lindy Hop track, the Solo Jazz track, or evening parties only. Class spots are limited; early booking is recommended.
