The world's oldest car race, featuring hill climbs and slalom racing in the Susa Valley.
The Susa-Moncenisio is a true legend in the world of motoring. Its first edition dates back to 1902, when the first historic winner was Vincenzo Lancia. Since then, this hill climb has been considered the oldest car race in the world, a sporting and cultural heritage of Piedmont that brings engines roaring back to life in the Susa Valley, within the Metropolitan City of Turin.
The modern track winds along 4.2 km of the SS25 Moncenisio state road, passing through the town of Giaglione, a small municipality in the province of Turin perched at an altitude of nearly 800 meters. The course features an elevation gain of 305 meters (from 675 to 980 meters above sea level) and an average gradient of 8.3%, with a road width averaging 7.5 meters. Historically, the original track started in Susa and climbed for 22.5 km up to the Moncenisio Lake, now located in French territory.
The modern event combines two motorsport specialties. On one hand, the historic car hill climb, which brings the race back to its most authentic roots; on the other, the slalom, valid for the First Zone Italian Slalom Cup, where drivers challenge each other between cones placed along the course. It is this combination that makes the Giaglione weekend a highly anticipated event for enthusiasts from all over Northern Italy.
Organized by Supergara and Legends Arena with the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Turin, the Susa-Moncenisio involves the entire Susa Valley: technical and sporting checks take place in the heart of Susa, at the Legends Arena on Corso Couvert, while the race ignites the town of Giaglione. For the occasion, the SS25 is closed to traffic, transforming the mountain road into an authentic theater of speed among the hairpin turns of the Cottian Alps.
Attending the Susa-Moncenisio means reliving over a century of Italian motoring history in a charming alpine setting, amidst the roar of engines and the enthusiasm of the crowds lining the roadside.
The 2026 edition of the Susa-Moncenisio brought the event back to its most authentic roots, pairing the slalom competition with the return of the historic car hill climb. A weekend that confirmed the timeless charm of the world's oldest car race, along the 4.2 km of the SS25 Moncenisio state road in the town of Giaglione, in the Susa Valley.
The event, organized by Supergara and Legends Arena with the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Turin, is part of a three-year relaunch project designed to bring the historic Piedmontese race back to the top of the motorsport world.
The race is held on the SS25 Moncenisio state road, in the town of Giaglione (TO), in the Susa Valley. Technical and sporting checks and the awards ceremonies are held in Susa, at the Legends Arena, on Corso Couvert 31.
Giaglione can be reached from the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway, taking the Susa exit and continuing along the SS25. Susa is also served by the Turin-Bussoleno-Susa railway line.
During the race, the SS25 Moncenisio remains closed to traffic: on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Sunday from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. It is recommended to check for alternative routes and follow the signage provided by the organizers.
