The evening festival of the historic center of Gragnano Trebbiense
Every year, at the beginning of June, the historic center of Gragnano Trebbiense lights up for the Summer Night, one of the most anticipated evening festivals in the Piacenza plain. Founded around 2015 to boost local retail, the event has become a fixture in the municipality's summer calendar in just a few years, in the Province of Piacenza, in Emilia-Romagna. As Mayor Patrizia Calza likes to recall, it is "a big family celebration under the stars".
For one evening, from 6 PM until midnight, the main street of the village is closed to traffic and transforms into a large pedestrian area, free from noise and cars. Via Roma becomes an open-air shopping street: shops remain open late into the evening, quality stalls and other local businesses line the sidewalks, while street food offers the genuine flavors of local cuisine.
The soundtrack for the evening is provided by three music stations spread throughout the center: two live music stages and a karaoke station, where anyone can get on stage and sing. Alongside the music, the festival offers ample space for art: an art exhibition is held in the Municipal Council Hall, while the cultural center hosts photographic exhibitions dedicated to the region and travel experiences, complete with video screenings. The official inauguration usually takes place around 6:30 PM at the cultural center.
Summer Night is above all a festival for all ages. For the little ones, there are ancient games, recreational activities, and inflatables, while along the streets, hobbyists and creators display and sell their handmade creations. Admission is free: the goal is to bring the community together and support the village's activities.
The success of the evening stems from the collaboration between the Municipal Administration, local businesses, the Banca di Piacenza, and the main local associations: Pro Loco Gragnano Trebbiense, Anspi of Casaliggio and Gragnanino, Polisportiva Campremoldo Sopra, and the Gruppo Alpini of Agazzano. A concrete example of how a small community in the Piacenza plain can network to liven up its historic center.
The Summer Night 2026 in Gragnano Trebbiense was held on Saturday, June 6th, from 6 PM until midnight, with Via Roma closed to traffic and transformed into a large open-air lounge. The evening featured shops open late, street food, three music stations (two live and one karaoke), ancient games and attractions, inflatables, and craft stalls.
Ample space was given to art: in the Municipal Council Hall, a painting exhibition curated by Franca Baldassera, the result of a two-year course, and at the cultural center, two photographic exhibitions by Giuseppe and Ilaria Morganti, dedicated to the region and a 2023 ascent of Kilimanjaro, with video projections. The inauguration took place at 6:30 PM at the cultural center, in the presence of Mayor Patrizia Calza and Deputy Mayor Marco Caviati.
