The Summer Film Festival, known to everyone as Cinema at Piazza Pia, is the open-air big-screen event that brings the historic center of Albano Laziale to life every summer. Located in the Castelli Romani area in the province of Rome, Lazio, the charming Piazza Pia turns into an open-air cinema arena for several nights in August, where the public gathers under the stars to enjoy screenings with completely free admission.
The event was founded in 2010 with a clear goal: to offer families the chance to enjoy summer evenings with the best cinematic productions, without leaving town and at no cost. Over the years, the festival has grown, becoming identified by the acronym REC (Rassegna Estiva Cinematografica) followed by the edition number. The organization of recent editions has been entrusted to the Percorsi Up Arte association, in collaboration with the Municipal Administration of Albano Laziale and the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment.
The program alternates between successful Italian comedies, auteur films, and family-friendly features, with screenings typically starting around 9:15 PM. The free entry and the setting of the square, surrounded by the historic buildings of Albano, make these evenings a convivial occasion: not just cinema, but a true meeting point for residents and visitors of the Castelli Romani.
Cinema at Piazza Pia is part of the broader Estate Albanense program, the calendar of cultural and entertainment events promoted by the Municipality of Albano Laziale. Alongside the musical and theatrical appointments that enliven the city, the film festival represents one of the most anticipated and well-attended moments, capable of attracting audiences from the neighboring towns of the Alban Hills.
As every year, Cinema at Piazza Pia is expected to return in the summer of 2026 with new evenings of free screenings in Albano Laziale. At the moment, no official dates or film programs have been released. It is recommended to follow the channels of the Municipality of Albano Laziale and the festival for updates.
