A culinary village in the heart of Ascea Marina

In mid-August, Piazza Europa, the beating heart of Ascea Marina, completely changes its look: stalls replace parking spaces, the scent of grills mingles with the sea breeze, and the square becomes the evening meeting point for locals and vacationers alike. This is the Summer Festival Street Food & Drinks, an event that blends street food, craft beers, and live music in the municipality of Ascea, in the province of Salerno, nestled in the heart of the Cilento region and Campania.

Over twenty stalls from Italy and beyond

The core of the festival is the gastronomic village set up throughout the square. Recent editions have featured more than twenty stalls, offering everything from Italian regional specialties to international cuisine, paired with a selection of craft beers and cocktails designed for summer nights.

The format is typical of street food festivals: you stroll between the stalls, sample a bit of everything, and eat standing up or at communal tables, with no formalities and no reservations required.

Music, DJ sets, and street performers

Alongside the food, the Summer Festival builds a full entertainment program every year. The stage in Piazza Europa hosts live concerts, tribute bands playing Italian and international pop hits, 80s, 90s, and 2000s revival nights, DJ sets that continue late into the night, and moments dedicated to street performers, with jugglers, fire-eaters, stilt-walkers, and circus acts moving among the stalls.

In the 2025 edition, for example, the program alternated between the Ferragosto Party with guest DJs, a 'Baby Corrida' talent show for local young voices, a night of street performers, and live concerts that closed the event each evening.

A Ferragosto tradition

The timing is no coincidence: the festival takes place during the Ferragosto holidays, when Ascea Marina reaches its peak tourist numbers. It is the moment when the town is at its liveliest, and the festival becomes the evening highlight that gathers vacationing families, groups of friends, and locals in a single square overlooking the sea.

Ascea, Velia, and the Cilento National Park

Ascea is one of the iconic towns of the Cilento region: its territory is home to the archaeological site of Velia, the ancient Elea founded by the Phocaeans and birthplace of the Eleatic philosophical school of Parmenides and Zeno, now a UNESCO World Heritage site along with the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. The coastal hamlet of Ascea Marina, with its long sandy beach, is one of the most popular seaside destinations on the Cilento coast.

Festival-goers can easily combine an evening in the square with a day at the beach, a visit to the Velia excavations, or an excursion into the hinterland, among hillside villages, olive groves, and the flavors of the Mediterranean diet, which has one of its historical cradles in this very area.

The 2026 edition

At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced; the reference period remains mid-August, as in previous years. The full program, including the list of stalls and the performance schedule, is usually released in the weeks leading up to the event through the organization's social media channels.
