The distributed design that tells the story of Milan's southern suburbs during Fuorisalone
Stadera Design District is one of the most interesting and distinctive realities of Milan's Fuorisalone: instead of concentrating in the most famous design districts, it brings Milan Design Week to the Stadera neighborhood, in the southern suburbs of Milan (Municipality 5). An operation that overturns the usual geography of design, restoring centrality to a popular and multicultural area.
The 2026 theme, Outsiders, in conversation, is a statement of intent. The concept of "outsider" is reinterpreted as a free and lateral position, capable of generating alternative narratives outside the dominant circuits. "In conversation" emphasizes how design arises from the dialogue between different cultures, crafts, and communities, just like those that coexist in the Stadera neighborhood.
The district is experienced by walking around the neighborhood: spaces and studios open their doors to the public with open studios from 11 am to 7 pm, while guided tours, exhibitions, workshops, performances, and demonstrations liven up the days. Among the participating venues are realities such as Bristol, FoscaMilano, It Comics, Sempreverde Lab, Chromakairos, and others, in a path that showcases visible creative processes rather than spectacle.
Organized by Fantastudio and Vicini di Strada with the patronage of Municipality 5 and MM Spa, Stadera Design District is a non-commercial and free project, which views design as a shared social practice. It is an opportunity to discover a less touristy and more authentic Milan, where creativity intertwines with the daily life of the neighborhood.
The 2026 edition of Stadera Design District revolves around the theme "Outsiders, in conversation," which reinterprets the figure of the outsider as a free position that generates alternative narratives. For three days, during Milan Design Week, the Stadera neighborhood opens its studios, galleries, and creative spaces to the public.
The program alternates open studios, guided tours, exhibitions, workshops, performances, and demonstrations, with the patronage of Municipality 5 and MM Spa. Special openings include a guided tour of the MM Water Citadel.
All events are free, in line with the non-commercial nature of the district.
