The San Lorenzo in Strada neighborhood's masked festival in Riccione
The Spontricciolo Carnival is one of the most beloved neighborhood festivals in Riccione, in the Province of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna. Every year, on an afternoon in February, Piazza di Spontricciolo, along viale Saluzzo, fills with confetti, colorful costumes, and music, becoming the meeting point for the San Lorenzo in Strada neighborhood. It is a people's festival, far from the grand parades of allegorical floats, which focuses on the spontaneous participation of families, children, and residents.
The event is organized by the San Lorenzo in Strada parish, with the patronage of the Municipality of Riccione, and has roots in a tradition spanning about thirty years: the parish community celebrated Carnival as early as the eighties and nineties. More than a tourist event, it is a community ritual that renews the bond between the people of the neighborhood every winter, in a climate of joy and solidarity.
The afternoon offers a program designed to engage both adults and children: music, dances, and themed entertainment, games and shows for children, with a gift for all the little ones present. The heart of the festival is the charity raffle, a moment of solidarity that has always accompanied the spirit of the neighborhood and supports the parish's activities. Everyone is invited to come in costume, showing off creative and original outfits.
Thanks to its free and accessible nature, the Spontricciolo Carnival is perfect for families with children looking for an afternoon of fun and entertainment without leaving the city. In case of bad weather, the festival is postponed to the following Sunday, so as not to miss out on the joy of the Riccione Carnival.
