The Four Martyrs of Gandino

Every first Sunday of July, the village of Gandino, in Val Seriana (province of Bergamo), celebrates the Solemnity of the Holy Martyr Patrons: Ponziano, Quirino, Valentino, and Flaviano. It is one of the most heartfelt anniversaries in the town, a moment of strong community identity that takes place in the splendid Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most important monuments in the valley.

The Translation of the Relics

The heart of the feast is the translation of the relics of the Patrons. On the eve, the evening Mass accompanies the relics to the Basilica's main altar, while on the day of the solemnity, at the end of the celebrations, the relics return to the altar of the Holy Patrons. An ancient rite that binds the community to its protectors.

• Vigil (Thursday), 8:30 PM — Mass with translation of the relics to the main altar
• Friday, 5:00 PM — Mass for families and children
• Saturday, 6:00 PM — Vigil festive Mass
• Sunday, 10:30 AM — Solemn Mass
• Sunday, 5:30 PM — Solemn Vespers
• Sunday, 6:00 PM — Mass with translation of the relics to the altar of the Holy Patrons

The solemnity of the SS. Martyr Patrons is much more than a liturgical event: it is the moment when Gandino reaffirms its bond with tradition and with the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, the spiritual and artistic heart of the town and of the entire Bergamo Val Seriana.
