Knights, ladies, and glasses of Soave DOC in the Scaliger village
The Soave Medieval and White Wine Festival is one of the most beloved historical re-enactments in the Veneto region, held in the medieval historic center of Soave, in the province of Verona. For three days, the streets of the village, dominated by the Scaliger Castle, are populated by knights, ladies, armor-bearers, flag-wavers, jesters, falconers, fire-eaters, and archers, in 14th-century costume parades that evoke the court of Cansignorio della Scala.
The festival is also a grand tribute to Soave DOC wine, the pride of Veronese oenology. Along the route, you'll find tasting stations such as 'l'Isola del Gusto' (The Island of Taste), 'la Piazzetta del Soave' (The Little Soave Square), and 'la Fontana del Vino' (The Wine Fountain), where you can sample the local white wines. The combination of historical re-enactment and food and wine makes the event a unique experience, blending culture, entertainment, and taste within the framework of one of Italy's most beautiful villages.
The program is packed: the Medieval Banquet at Cansignorio's court, the Knights' Feast, encampments and educational activities in the parks, the Knightly Tournament, the grand Historical Parade, and the spectacular finale, the Burning of Porta Verona. There's also a medieval and antique market, artisans, demonstrations of ancient crafts, art and photography exhibitions, evening concerts, and guided theatrical tours. Organized by Pro Loco Soave, admission to the festival is free.
The 2026 edition of the Soave Medieval and White Wine Festival is scheduled from Friday, May 15th to Sunday, May 17th in the medieval historic center of the village. Three days of 14th-century historical re-enactment with knights, ladies, flag-wavers, jesters, and falconers, accompanied by tastings of Soave DOC at the food stations set up along the route.
The program alternates costume parades, encampments, banquets, knightly tournaments, evening concerts, and the traditional grand finale with the Burning of Porta Verona. The event, organized by Pro Loco Soave, offers free admission.
Throughout all three days: medieval and antique market, artisans and ancient crafts, art and photography exhibitions, Soave DOC tastings ('Isola del Gusto', 'Piazzetta del Soave', 'Fontana del Vino'), theatricalized guided tours.
Soave can be reached by car from the A4 motorway (Soave-San Bonifacio exit). The festival takes place in the medieval historic center, with pedestrian access to the village.
Free admission to the event. Medieval Banquet and Knights' Feast are ticketed, upon reservation.
The festival is held in May, over three days (Friday-Sunday).
