About Soave Medieval Festival

For three days, Soave goes back in time: knights, ladies, flag-wavers, jesters, falconers, and fire-eaters bring the medieval village of Verona to life in one of the most evocative historical re-enactments in the Veneto region. The Medieval and White Wine Festival combines the 14th-century atmosphere of the Scaliger court with the tasting of the prized Soave DOC wine, featuring encampments, costume parades, banquets, knightly tournaments, and the famous Burning of Porta Verona. A medieval market, artisans, concerts, theatricalized tours, and food stalls complete a program to be experienced, with free admission.

The Middle Ages come alive in the village of Soave

The Soave Medieval and White Wine Festival is one of the most beloved historical re-enactments in the Veneto region, held in the medieval historic center of Soave, in the province of Verona. For three days, the streets of the village, dominated by the Scaliger Castle, are populated by knights, ladies, armor-bearers, flag-wavers, jesters, falconers, fire-eaters, and archers, in 14th-century costume parades that evoke the court of Cansignorio della Scala.

Soave DOC wine takes center stage

The festival is also a grand tribute to Soave DOC wine, the pride of Veronese oenology. Along the route, you'll find tasting stations such as 'l'Isola del Gusto' (The Island of Taste), 'la Piazzetta del Soave' (The Little Soave Square), and 'la Fontana del Vino' (The Wine Fountain), where you can sample the local white wines. The combination of historical re-enactment and food and wine makes the event a unique experience, blending culture, entertainment, and taste within the framework of one of Italy's most beautiful villages.

Banquets, tournaments, and the Burning of Porta Verona

The program is packed: the Medieval Banquet at Cansignorio's court, the Knights' Feast, encampments and educational activities in the parks, the Knightly Tournament, the grand Historical Parade, and the spectacular finale, the Burning of Porta Verona. There's also a medieval and antique market, artisans, demonstrations of ancient crafts, art and photography exhibitions, evening concerts, and guided theatrical tours. Organized by Pro Loco Soave, admission to the festival is free.
