International short film festival in Misterbianco
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sikania Film Festival is an international film event dedicated to short films that brings the town of Misterbianco to life every autumn. Located just outside Catania, in the heart of the Etna region of Sicily, the festival was created and directed by filmmaker Marco Ferrara. Promoted by the Sikania Network in collaboration with local associations, it has quickly established itself as a premier showcase for independent short cinema, attracting works from all over Italy and abroad.
The heart of the event is the competition: every year, over three hundred works are submitted, from which a committee selects a shortlist of short films and music videos to compete. Screenings take place at the Nelson Mandela Auditorium and the "Andrea Camilleri" Theatre in Misterbianco, before an audience of enthusiasts, industry professionals, and young filmmakers. The entries range from fiction films to short documentaries, with a special focus on new generations of directors and local stories.
The festival presents several awards, including the Global Award (voted for by the audience), the jury's Etna Award, the Press Award, and the Sikania Award, as well as recognition for the best music video. Alongside the awards, the festival pays tribute to personalities from the world of entertainment and highlights emerging young talent.
The Sikania Film Festival is about more than just film. The evenings are enriched with live musical performances, dance acts, book presentations, and fashion shows by young designers, creating a multidisciplinary program that blends different art forms. This formula turns the screenings into a true celebration of creativity, showcasing Sicilian talent and providing visibility to new audiovisual languages.
As part of the cultural calendar of the Municipality of Misterbianco, the festival helps enliven the cultural life of the province of Catania and the entire Sicily region, offering the public two days of free cinema and entertainment, and providing young authors with a concrete opportunity for professional growth and networking.
The 2026 edition of the Sikania Film Festival in Misterbianco is highly anticipated, but official dates have not yet been announced. Following the tradition of previous editions, which have historically taken place in September, the organization is keeping the call for films open for submissions. The program, selected short films, guests, and awards will be announced by the organizers. We recommend checking the official website and the festival's social media channels for updates.
Misterbianco is located just a few kilometers from Catania and is easily accessible by car via the Catania ring road (Misterbianco exit) and the A18/A19 motorway. Catania-Fontanarossa Airport is approximately 10 km away. The Nelson Mandela Auditorium and the "Andrea Camilleri" Theatre are located in the town center.
Admission to the evening events is generally free, subject to availability.
