A forest that comes to life

For one Saturday in May, the Parco dei Fontanili, the green space on the outskirts of Vasanello, comes alive with Selva, a day dedicated to outdoor sports and conviviality. The concept is simple yet effective: bringing people back into the woods, letting them experience it through play, movement, and the aroma of a large, crackling fire. Organized by the Castrum group with the support of the Municipality of Vasanello, the event reached its third edition in 2026 and has firmly established itself as one of the most original spring gatherings in the Viterbo Tuscia area.

Airsoft among the trees

The highlight of the day is woodland airsoft: a team sport based on military tactical simulation, played here in a stunning natural setting. Matches take place in one-hour rounds with a limited number of players per session, ensuring everyone can move safely through the trees and trails. The activity is specifically tailored for beginners: all equipment—replicas, BBs, protective masks, and ballistic glasses—is provided by the organizers, who also offer introductory training and constant field assistance. The projectiles used are 100% biodegradable, in full respect of the forest hosting the event. Minors may participate with a signed parental waiver.

Archery

Alongside airsoft, Selva offers archery, organized in mini-tournaments held throughout the afternoon. Each session welcomes a small group of archers and includes a basic technique lesson: even those who have never held a bow can try their hand at the target, guided step-by-step by instructors. Bows and arrows are provided by the organization.

Lunch around the fire

The day kicks off at noon with a social highlight that has become a ritual: the BBQ lunch around the large fire pit. The adult menu features a trio of bruschetta, a mixed grilled meat platter, and traditional local desserts, with wine and water included; for children, there are burgers and fries. Lunch is reserved for those who book in the days leading up to the event, a detail that contributes to the intimate and family-friendly atmosphere of the gathering.

An event for everyone

Selva is not a competition for experts but a celebration of the outdoors. Activities are open to all, spots are limited, and booking is mandatory to ensure every participant has space, safety, and attention. It is a format that combines sport, nature, and gastronomy in a way rarely seen in the Lazio region, and it has found its ideal setting in Vasanello.

Vasanello and the Tuscia

Vasanello is a village in the province of Viterbo, in the heart of the Tuscia region—a land of forests, ravines, and ceramic traditions. The town is known for the Orsini Castle and its ancient terracotta craftsmanship. Participating in Selva is also an opportunity to discover this authentic corner of Lazio, halfway between the Cimini Mountains and the Tiber Valley, where nature still takes center stage.
