The Furci Siculo fish festival on the Ionian Riviera of Messina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sea Festival is the most anticipated fish festival in Furci Siculo, a seaside village nestled along the Ionian Riviera, on the stretch of coast that connects Messina to Taormina, in the province of Messina. Every summer, the event brings the seafront and the municipal park to life, transforming the coastal center into a large open-air gathering dedicated to the sea, fishing, and good seafood cuisine.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Furci Siculo, the Sea Festival received the prestigious 'Quality Festival' recognition in 2020 from the National Union of Pro Loco of Italy (UNPLI): a label awarded to events that promote typical products historically linked to the territory and that tell its history and traditions. At the time, it was the only Sicilian festival included in this exclusive national list, a distinction of which the village is rightly proud.
The heart of the festival is naturally the gastronomy. At the food stalls, you can enjoy fresh fried fish, brought to the port every morning by local fishermen: tuna, swordfish, squid, and shellfish cooked according to Sicilian maritime tradition. The long queues in front of the fryers have become a true institution of the evening over the years.
The Sea Festival is much more than a gastronomic event: it is a collective tribute to the deep bond between Furci Siculo and its sea, an opportunity to rediscover the maritime identity of a small town in Ionian Sicily that has made fishing and hospitality its hallmarks.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Sea Festival in Furci Siculo have not yet been announced. The festival, organized by the Pro Loco and recognized by the UNPLI as a 'Quality Festival', usually takes place in the first days of August on the seafront and in the municipal park, with the famous fresh fried fish, musical performances, and moments of maritime folklore. It is recommended to follow the official channels of the Pro Loco of Furci Siculo to learn the date and program as soon as they are made public.
Seafront and municipal park of Furci Siculo (ME), on the Ionian Riviera. The food stalls and performances take place along the coast, near the Pro Loco information point.
By car: A18 Messina-Catania motorway, exit at Roccalumera-Furci Siculo, then SS114 along the coast. By train: the Furci Siculo station is on the Ionian Messina-Syracuse line, a short walk from the seafront.
Access to the event is free; fish tastings are paid for at the food stalls. It is recommended to arrive early to avoid long queues at the fryers.
