Three villages of Presolana come alive with scarecrows, flavours, and traditions
The Scarecrow Festival is a travelling event that unites three Municipalities on the Presolana plateau, in the province of Bergamo: Rovetta, Onore, and Songavazzo. For an entire weekend at the beginning of May, the streets and hamlets of the three villages become a single experiential route, dotted with scarecrows, installations, and activities designed for all ages.
The heart of the festival is the competition for the most original scarecrow, open to individuals and associations: anyone can create their own scarecrow and send a photo to the organizers. The three most successful creations are awarded prizes on Sunday in Songavazzo. A second award is dedicated to businesses with the competition for the best decorated shop window, which adds colour to the shops of the three towns.
The food and wine aspect is central. Restaurants and bars in the three villages offer themed dinners and aperitifs featuring dishes made with Red Beaked Corn, an ancient variety of corn typical of the area, a symbol of mountain agriculture that the festival aims to promote. It's an opportunity to discover local products and traditions through the direct stories of farmers and producers.
In addition to the competitions, the programme includes guided walks, installations, and cultural initiatives that guide visitors in discovering Rovetta, Onore, and Songavazzo. The libraries and associations of the three Municipalities contribute with readings, workshops, and family-friendly events, in a distributed calendar that changes from village to village.
The festival is the result of the Borghi Presolana network, which brings together Pro Loco, associations, libraries, and merchants from the three towns. The stated goal is to enhance the natural, cultural, and food and wine riches of Presolana, making the three villages a single destination to be experienced on foot, among haylofts, squares, and shops.
Three days of widespread celebration across the Presolana Villages. The Scarecrow Festival returns from May 1st to 3rd, 2026, in Rovetta, Onore, and Songavazzo, in the province of Bergamo, following the success of the previous edition.
Throughout the event, restaurants and bars in the three villages will offer themed dinners and aperitifs featuring Red Beaked Corn. The village streets will be populated by scarecrows created by individuals and associations, competing for the title of most original, while shops will participate in the contest for the best decorated shop window.
