About San Martino Re-enactment in Sambughè

In November, around the feast day of Saint Martin, the hamlet of Sambughè in Preganziol (Treviso) stages the Historical Re-enactment of Saint Martin: a travelling theatrical performance that retraces the life of the saint with dozens of costumed participants. A popular and participatory tradition, born in the early 2000s, which involves the entire community and is accompanied by a food stand and card tournaments typical of a village festival.

The life of Saint Martin on stage

The Historical Re-enactment of Saint Martin is a tradition of the hamlet of Sambughè, in the Municipality of Preganziol (province of Treviso). Around November 11th, Saint Martin's feast day, the community stages a theatrical re-enactment of the saint's life, performed by about 45 costumed participants.

A community tradition

Born around 2009, the re-enactment has grown over time to involve the entire village. The direction is by Cinzia Cavasin, while the script is by Enrico Lanza. The performance, free and open to all, has become a cherished event not only for the inhabitants of Sambughè but for the entire municipal area.

Village festival in Sambughè

Alongside the performance, the Saint Martin festival in Sambughè retains the characteristics of a traditional Venetian village festival: a food stand and card tournaments (Scopa and Tressette) accompany the day in a convivial atmosphere. An example of how, in the heart of the Treviso area, popular faith, theatre, and community continue to intertwine.
