About San Martino Festival

Every November, for the feast of Saint Martin, the small Piazza Scarcella in Torre Archirafi transforms into a large open-air banquet. The San Martino Festival is a genuine village celebration, born from the initiative of the local parish community in this seaside hamlet of Riposto, in the province of Catania. With grilled sausage sandwiches, wine, and the convivial atmosphere that has always accompanied Saint Martin's Day, it is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Sicilian Ionian coast at the foot of Mount Etna.

An autumn festival in the heart of Torre Archirafi

The San Martino Festival is one of the most cherished autumn events in Torre Archirafi, an ancient seaside village and hamlet of the municipality of Riposto, in the province of Catania. Every year, around Saint Martin's Day (November 11th), the cozy and welcoming Piazza Scarcella becomes the heart of the festivities: market stalls, the scent of sausage roasting on the grill, and shared tables bring to life a popular tradition that blends devotion, great food, and social connection.

Saint Martin's Day in Sicily

For centuries, Saint Martin has been linked to autumn and the first tastings of new wine: the saying «At Saint Martin's, every must becomes wine» accompanies celebrations across Italy during this period. In Torre Archirafi, the occasion translates into a simple and genuine festival, where the sausage sandwich is the absolute star, to be enjoyed in good company as evening falls over the Ionian coast.

A community-led celebration

The event is organized by the village's parish community and grows year by year: reaching its fourth edition in 2025, it is now a fixed appointment in the autumn calendar of Torre Archirafi. It is one of those village festivals that tell the story of the most authentic soul of eastern Sicily, far from the major tourist circuits, where the locals themselves bring the square to life.

Torre Archirafi, a seaside village at the foot of Mount Etna

Overlooking the Ionian Sea and dominated by the silhouette of Mount Etna, Torre Archirafi is a small town with a discreet charm, known for its waters, the mother church of Santa Maria del Rosario, and the tranquil atmosphere of the seafront. Participating in the San Martino Festival means experiencing the village in its most genuine dimension, during a season when the Catania coast regains its slow and intimate rhythms.
