The patronal feast of Castello Tesino

The San Giorgio Festival is the most cherished event in Castello Tesino, a village in the eastern Valsugana valley in the province of Trento, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Dedicated to Saint George, the town's patron saint, the event takes place every year in late April, transforming the village center into a vibrant hub that combines religious observance with popular, convivial celebrations.

Two days of tradition

The festival spans two days. The heart of the celebration is the solemn High Mass held in the church of San Giorgio, followed by a procession that winds through the village streets with the participation of local associations. Surrounding this religious core is a rich program of secular events: the Gran Fiera di Via Dante with its market stalls, food stands, and musical performances that bring the village squares to life.

Flavors of the Tesino

Mountain gastronomy, prepared by local organizations, takes center stage. The Alpini and the Tesino Youth Group manage the food stalls in the Via Dante Gardens, where you can sample the famous parampampoli, a traditional hot liqueur from the area. The Schützen prepare strauben (traditional Trentino sweet fritters), while the Senior Citizens' Club offers homemade cakes. It is a perfect opportunity to savor the genuine products of the Valsugana valley in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Music, folklore, and community

The days are punctuated by performances from the marching band and the folk group, moving between Piazza San Giorgio, Piazza Trento, and Piazza Marconi. There are also plenty of activities for children, including 'little firefighter' games organized by the Volunteer Fire Department and displays of rescue vehicles and equipment from the Alpine Rescue team. The San Giorgio Festival remains one of the most defining events for Castello Tesino, uniting the community and offering visitors a glimpse into the life and traditions of this corner of Trentino.
