San Giacomo dall'Orio Charity Festival

A charitable festival since 1965

The San Giacomo dall'Orio Charity Festival has been brightening Venetian summers since 1965. It takes place in one of the city's most charming and intimate squares, in the Santa Croce district, in front of the ancient church of San Giacomo dall'Orio. It is organized by the Società San Giacomo Benefica ODV, which has been dedicating its volunteer efforts to the neighborhood and the city for decades.

Food, music, and tombola

For about ten days in July, the square transforms into a large popular gathering place. The kitchen opens in the late afternoon, offering typical dishes and grilled meats; the evenings are enlivened by live music, a charity raffle, and the traditional tombola. It is an authentic neighborhood festival, frequented mainly by Venetians, far from the tourist circuits.

The value of solidarity

What makes this festival special is its purpose: the proceeds are entirely dedicated to charitable causes. The Società San Giacomo Benefica donates medical and orthopedic equipment, instruments, furnishings, food items, and support to institutions, social associations, and needy families. The event is part of the summer program "Le Città in Festa" (Cities in Celebration) of the Municipality of Venice.
