The patron saint festival of Soraga di Fassa, blending faith and community
In the calendar of Soraga di Fassa, a small village in the Val di Fassa in the autonomous province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), June 29th is a date the community holds dear. It is the day of Saints Peter and Paul, the village's patron saints, celebrated every year with the traditional Patronal Festival. This is not a large-scale tourist event, but an authentic village celebration, rooted in the strong religious spirit that binds the inhabitants and is passed down from generation to generation.
The centerpiece of the festival is the solemn High Mass celebrated in the morning, around 10:15 AM, in the parish church of Soraga. The building is among the oldest in the valley, recognizable by its classic lines and the characteristic bell tower with an octagonal spire, a landmark that has watched over the village for centuries. The celebration brings the local faithful together in a moment of prayer and belonging, dedicated to the two apostles who protect the community.
Following the liturgical service, the festivities move outdoors: in the square in front of the Fire Station, the Events Committee offers a reception for everyone—a chance to meet, toast, and share a convivial moment. In case of bad weather, the gathering moves to the "La Gran Ciasa" multi-purpose hall, which also houses the local tourist office. It is a simple and heartfelt celebration where religious and community life naturally intertwine.
The Saints Peter and Paul Festival is part of the rich calendar of patronal feasts that bring the villages of Val di Fassa to life throughout the summer. As in many communities in the Trentino Alps, the patron saint defines the local identity: the festival is both a rite of faith and a village gathering, open to both residents and holidaymakers choosing Soraga for their summer vacation in the Dolomites. Participating means connecting with the most genuine soul of this mountain destination.
