Castegnato's patronal festival of faith, theatre, and tradition
Saint Vitalis is the patron saint of Castegnato, a municipality in the Province of Brescia overlooking Franciacorta. His feast is the moment of the year when the entire community comes together: a week that unites religious devotion, preserved in the parish church with the saint's urna, and the social life of the town, made up of theatre, music, and shared traditions.
The calendar opens with theatrical events at the San Filippo Neri Oratory: local companies stage dialect comedies and civil and religious performances. Cultural events are also featured, with photographic exhibitions set up in the oratory's multi-purpose hall. The popular heart of the festival is the Saint Vitalis Raffle, one of the most anticipated and well-attended events by the people of Castegnato.
The most solemn moment is the procession through the town streets, accompanied by the Castegnato Band. After masses presided over by priests and ecclesiastical authorities, the saint's urna is displayed and then returned to the church in the final days: a rite that renews the bond between the community and its patron saint every year.
The Saint Vitalis Festival is much more than a liturgical recurrence: it is the thread that holds together different generations, from the children of the oratory to the elderly who remember past editions. In a Franciacorta town like Castegnato, it is also an opportunity to rediscover the roots of a tradition that is renewed year after year.
The Saint Vitalis Festival 2026 in Castegnato combines liturgical celebrations and popular events. It opens with dialect theatre and performances by Catholic Action at the San Filippo Neri Oratory, continues with a photographic exhibition by the Castegnato Photographic Circle and the traditional Saint Vitalis Raffle, and culminates in the Sunday procession through the town streets accompanied by the band. Masses are presided over by priests and ecclesiastical authorities, with the display and return of the saint's urna.
