Saint Michael the Archangel Feast and Fair with the Fettuccine Festival

The patronal festival of the «Land of Saint Michael»

Vallecorsa, a small town perched on the Ausoni Mountains in the province of Frosinone, Southern Lazio, is known as the «Land of Saint Michael». The cult of the Archangel, the town's patron, has been documented here since at least 1709 and continues to shape the community's life today. Every year on May 8th—the day commemorating the Apparition of Saint Michael on Monte Gargano—the village celebrates its saint with a day blending religious rites, a traditional fair, and one of the area's most beloved food festivals.

The May 8th Fair

The Saint Michael Fair is Vallecorsa's historic market event: stalls and vendors bring the town to life from the early morning, following a custom rooted in the rural civilization of the Ausoni people. Alongside the fair, the religious program includes celebrations in honor of the Archangel, featuring moments deeply felt by the population, such as the blessing and the breaking of the first egg for the scazzuotti, the traditional fried pastries distributed during the festivities.

The Fettuccine Festival

In the evening, the historic «La Piazza» center turns into one big dining table for the Fettuccine Festival, founded thirty years ago to honor the Apparitions of Saint Michael on the Gargano and reaching its 30th edition in 2026. The fettuccine are kneaded and rolled out by hand by local families and housewives, seasoned according to local tradition, and served with wine and scazzuotti, while live music provides the soundtrack for the evening. It is a genuinely communal festival: the whole town participates in the preparations, recreating the atmosphere of traditional patronal feasts of the past.

A year of Michaelic celebrations

Vallecorsa's devotion to Saint Michael does not end in May. The Patronal Festival Committee, together with the parish and the «San Michele Arcangelo» Cultural Association, organizes civil and religious events throughout the year: on July 31st, the late-August pilgrimage to the sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo in Puglia—the heart of the Michaelic cult—and, between September 19th and 29th, the novena and triduum that culminate in the liturgical feast of the Archangel. Since 2023, Vallecorsa has been part of the National Michaelic Network, which unites sacred sites dedicated to Saint Michael across Italy.

A tradition that tells the story of Ciociaria

Attending the festival means discovering an authentic corner of the Ciociaria and the Lazio region: the stone alleys of the historic center, the macere (the dry-stone walls of the olive terraces, candidates for agricultural heritage status), and the local olive oil and traditional products. The patronage of the Municipality of Vallecorsa and the commitment of local volunteers ensure a well-organized, free, and inclusive event every year, perfect for families.
