The patron saint and the challenge between the districts in the land of Franciacorta
The Saint George Festival is the most anticipated event of spring in Cellatica, a municipality in the Province of Brescia on the edge of Franciacorta. Dedicated to the patron saint Saint George, the festival takes place in late April and coincides with the April 25th Liberation Day celebrations, blending religious, civil, and community conviviality.
The highlight of the event is the Palio delle Contrade, where Cellatica's three historic districts — Fantasina, Piazza, and Caporalino — compete in a spirited and engaging contest. The Palio enlivens the town and strengthens the identity of the districts, in a challenge that involves both young and old and represents the common thread of the festival.
Organized by the Oratorio Stella del Mattino, the festival offers a rich and varied program: rides and inflatable games for children, a cake competition, the traditional Brescian spiedo, tombola, and festive evenings with food and entertainment. The religious aspect is present with a mass in the Church of San Giorgio Martire, as is the civil dimension with the Liberation Day celebrations in Piazza Martiri della Libertà.
Cellatica is one of the municipalities in Franciacorta, a region renowned for its sparkling wines and rolling hills. The Saint George Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover this Brescia village and experience the authentic atmosphere of a patronal feast that combines tradition, community, and conviviality.
The 2026 edition of the Saint George Festival takes place from April 25 to 27 in Cellatica, with the Palio delle Contrade as the central event. The festival, organized by the Oratorio Stella del Mattino, coincides with the April 25th celebrations and offers a rich program of activities for all ages.
Exact times will be confirmed by the Oratorio Stella del Mattino closer to the festival.
