Summer gastronomic festivals in the seaside village of Torre Archirafi
The Sagre del Solleone represent one of the most cherished summer traditions in Torre Archirafi, a charming seaside hamlet in the municipality of Riposto, along the Ionian coast of the province of Catania, in Sicily. The name evokes the "solleone" period, the hottest days of summer, when the village comes alive every weekend with the aromas and flavors of local traditional cuisine.
The uniqueness of this series is that each evening is dedicated to a different dish from the Sicilian gastronomic tradition. It starts with the Macaroni Festival, followed by the Fried Fish Cone Festival (cuoppo), the Sausage Festival, the Swordfish Festival, and the meatball festival. The stands are set up in Piazza Scarcella, the village's open-air living room, where residents and visitors gather around tables to enjoy the specialties prepared by volunteers.
The festivals are organized by the Maria SS. del Rosario Festival Committee, linked to the village parish: the proceeds from the evenings help support community activities and the celebrations in honor of the patron saint. It is a typical formula for Sicilian towns, where the gastronomic festival and the devotional dimension have been intertwined for generations, creating a deep bond between faith, identity, and hospitality.
The events generally kick off at 8:00 PM and continue throughout the evening, often accompanied by live music and, on some summer dates, fireworks over the sea. Torre Archirafi, with its characteristic mineral water springs, lava cliffs, and small harbor, offers an authentic and intimate setting, far from mass tourism, where you can experience the Ionian summer in its most genuine and popular form.
The 2026 edition of the gastronomic series in Torre Archirafi (Riposto, CT) opens on June 20 with the Macaroni Festival and is divided into several weekly appointments in Piazza Scarcella. Announced dates include the Fried Fish Cone Festival on July 4, the Sausage Festival on July 18, and a new Fried Fish Cone Festival on July 25, with the calendar extending until the end of July.
Each evening, organized by the Maria SS. del Rosario Festival Committee, offers a different specialty of the Sicilian tradition, to be enjoyed at the stands starting from 8:00 PM. The event confirms its proven formula: conviviality, authentic flavors, and the atmosphere of the seaside village during the hottest summer nights.
