The patronal festival of Rodero on the panoramic Colle di San Maffeo
Rodero, in the Province of Como (Lombardy), is a small village overlooking the border with Switzerland, in the Mendrisiotto region. Its symbol is the Colle di San Maffeo (Saint Maffeo Hill), a panoramic elevation topped by the chapel dedicated to the saint, a destination for walks and the heart of the village's religious and festive traditions. It is here that every year, at the beginning of August, the Sagra di San Maffeo, Rodero's patronal festival, is celebrated.
The heart of the sagra is the solemn mass in honour of San Maffeo, the patron saint of the village, followed by the traditional procession that winds through the streets of Rodero, reinforcing the community's sense of belonging and spirituality. It is the most heartfelt moment of the festival, linking generations to their history and their hill.
After the religious moments, the festival comes alive around the food stalls, where you can taste the dishes of typical Lombard cuisine: grilled meats, cured meats, cheeses, polenta, and artisanal desserts, prepared according to tradition. The table becomes a place for conviviality, in a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
The Sagra di San Maffeo also offers live music, traditional games, tombola (bingo), and entertainment for children, with moments of dancing and socialising that make it perfect for those who love village festivals and local traditions. Organised by the Gruppo San Maffeo, it is part of a calendar of events that animate the hill throughout the year, from the Festa dello Sport (Sports Festival) to the Festa della Solidarietร (Solidarity Festival).
In 2026, the Sagra di San Maffeo returns to the panoramic hill of Rodero on the first weekend of August, organised by the Gruppo San Maffeo. The patronal festival combines the religious dimension with conviviality: the solemn mass and procession in honour of the patron saint open three days of festivities.
Around the food stalls, the community gathers for typical Lombard cuisine, live music, traditional games, and entertainment for children.
The exact program will be released by the Gruppo San Maffeo on their channels in the weeks preceding the event.
