About Sagra di San Bartolomeo

At the end of summer, Casalpusterlengo pauses for its patron saint. The Sagra di San Bartolomeo is one of the most important festivals in the Province of Lodi: weeks of events that transform the historic centre into a grand stage, featuring the solemn Mass celebrated by the Bishop, the funfair, food stalls, exhibitions, tournaments, ballroom dancing, and the unmissable fireworks display. A deeply rooted tradition that revolves around August 24th, St. Bartholomew's Day, and which each year draws thousands of people to the city from all over the region.

St. Bartholomew, patron saint of Casalpusterlengo

Casalpusterlengo, an important centre in the Province of Lodi along the Via Emilia, celebrates its patron saint St. Bartholomew with one of the most heartfelt and well-attended sagre (local festivals) in the area. The festival unfolds over a calendar of several weeks, around August 24th, the day dedicated to the saint, and involves the entire historic centre, from Piazza del Popolo to Piazza della Repubblica and the historic Torre Pusterla.

The religious moment

The spiritual heart of the sagra is the Solemn Mass presided over by the Bishop of Lodi, celebrated on the main Sunday of the festival. It is the moment when the community comes together around the figure of the patron saint, in a religious tradition that gives meaning and roots to the entire event.

A festival lasting weeks

Alongside the religious dimension, the sagra offers a very rich programme: the funfair that stays in town for days, bocce tournaments, numerous exhibitions (sacred art, painting, photography), evenings of ballroom dancing, charity raffles, shop window competitions, vintage car shows, and motorcycle rallies. There is also DegustArte, a showcase of local wine, gastronomy, and art, featuring traditional sweets and specialities.

The grand finale with fireworks

As tradition dictates, the main day concludes with the fireworks display, which lights up the sky of Casalpusterlengo and draws a large crowd to the centre. It is the symbolic image of a festival that combines faith, fun, taste, and culture, and represents one of the identity events of the Province of Lodi.
