Two days of lake cuisine on Lake Varese
The Sagra del Pesce (Fish Festival) enlivens Calcinate del Pesce every year, a district of Varese overlooking the lake of the same name. The event takes place in the spaces of the Oratorio (oratory), at via Ettore Ponti 153, and offers two days entirely dedicated to lake cuisine and conviviality.
The menu focuses on traditional Larian dishes: bleak, fish 'in carpione' (marinated fish), fish fillet, and the unmissable polenta, also offered with donkey meat, gorgonzola, and tomino cheese. Takeaway service is also available, while free parking facilitates access to the festival.
Live music accompanies the cuisine: the evenings are enlivened by bands and dancing, attracting families and visitors from Varese and the surrounding areas. The festival is closely linked to the life of the district's community, which celebrates its most important annual event around the feast of Saint Peter.
The district, whose name already evokes fishing, is part of the Municipality of Varese, the provincial capital. The festival is an opportunity to discover a quiet corner of Lake Varese, far from the most popular tourist destinations.
The 2026 edition offers two days of festivities at the oratory of Calcinate del Pesce. The menu is based on traditional lake dishes: bleak, fish 'in carpione', fish fillet, and polenta, served with donkey meat, gorgonzola, and tomino. Takeaway service and free parking are available.
