A Holy Week Tradition in Alpago
Every year, during Holy Week, the small municipality of Tambre, nestled in the Alpago plateau in the province of Belluno, stages the Sacred Representation of the Calvary: a living re-enactment of the Passion and death of Jesus Christ that involves the local community.
A Sacred Open-Air Theatre
The performance unfolds along the streets and squares of the village, transformed for one evening into the setting of the Via Crucis. Costumed participants embody the various episodes of the Passion, guiding the spectator through a journey that combines devotion, collective memory, and popular theatre. It is an event that is part of the Holy Week celebrations calendar in Veneto, experienced with great participation by the inhabitants of Alpago.
Organization and Spirit of the Event
The initiative is curated by Pro Loco Tambre, which has been preserving and promoting this religious and cultural tradition for years. Sacred Representation Tambre — edition 2026
For Good Friday 2026, the Sacred Representation of the Calvary is scheduled for Friday, April 3, at 8:30 PM in the center of Tambre. The evening features a living re-enactment of the Passion of Christ along the streets of the Alpago village, with the participation of the local community.
The event is organized by Pro Loco Tambre. As it is an outdoor evening event in a mountain setting, appropriate clothing is recommended.
