The anniversary of the Victory of Vittorio Veneto and the Day of National Unity and Armed Forces
Vittorio Veneto, in the province of Treviso, is inextricably linked to November 4th: it was here, between October 24th and November 4th, 1918, that the Battle of Vittorio Veneto was fought, the decisive offensive that led to the end of World War I on the Italian front. For this reason, the city experiences the anniversary with a unique intensity.
The celebrations begin with the laying of a wreath at the Monument to the Knights of Vittorio Veneto, on Viale Vittorio Emanuele II. The procession then moves to Piazza del Popolo for the solemn commemoration ceremony for the fallen, with the flag-raising in the presence of civil, military, and religious authorities, and veterans' associations. In the afternoon, at the Shrine of the Flags in the Serravalle fairgrounds, Holy Mass is celebrated in memory of the fallen; the celebrations conclude with the flag lowering.
The Day of National Unity and Armed Forces in Vittorio Veneto is more than a civic occasion: it is the moment when the city renews the memory of its history and the role it played in 1918. The day typically concludes with an evening concert at the Lorenzo Da Ponte Theatre dedicated to the City of Victory.
Vittorio Veneto can be reached by car via the A27 motorway and by train. The ceremonies take place in the city center; traffic modifications and parking bans are planned for the morning in Viale della Vittoria, Via Brandolini, and Viale Vittorio Emanuele II.
Public ceremonies with free admission.
