The neighbourhood festival that reopens the Busto Arsizio sagra season
Sacconago in Piazza is the festival of the Sacconago neighbourhood, a district of Busto Arsizio, in the province of Varese. Heir to the historic Grape Festival (Sagra dell'Uva) — renamed after the break during the Covid period — it is a popular festival that for three days fills the district's squares with music, flavours, and traditions, traditionally marking the reopening of the Busto Arsizio sagra season.
The heart of the festival are the food stalls, set up in the neighbourhood's squares — Piazza Carlo Noè, Piazza della Chiesa Vecchia, and Piazza San Donato — with the traditional risotto dishes at the Cantina Rizzi. Alongside the food, the exhibition of agricultural machinery, traditional games, and reenactments of rural life recall the district's rural roots and its ancient vocation linked to the grape harvest.
The evenings are enlivened by concerts and DJ sets in Piazza Carlo Noè, while during the day there are bouncy castles and games for children, charity card tournaments, fire brigade demonstrations (Pompieropoli), performances by sports groups, and guided tours of the charming old church. A rich and varied programme, designed to involve all ages.
Organised by the association of traders and artisans of Sacconago, the festival is much more than a sagra: it is the moment when the neighbourhood comes together and celebrates its identity, between rural memory and community life. With free entry, Sacconago in Piazza is one of the most cherished events of the late Busto Arsizio summer.
The 2026 edition of Sacconago in Piazza takes place, as tradition dictates, between the end of August and the beginning of September, with three days of celebration in the Sacconago neighbourhood. The programme includes food stalls in the district's squares — Carlo Noè, Chiesa Vecchia, and San Donato — with traditional risotto dishes, evening concerts, bouncy castles and games for children, exhibitions of agricultural machinery, traditional games, fire brigade demonstrations, and visits to the old church. The precise dates will be published in the weeks leading up to the event. Free admission.
