The open-air contemporary art gallery in Piazza della Repubblica
The Rome Art Festival is one of Rome's longest-running contemporary art exhibitions. Twice a year, in spring and autumn, the event transforms the city's historic squares into an open-air gallery, offering passersby and enthusiasts a free journey through paintings, sculptures, graphic works, and photographs. For its 71st edition, the festival once again chooses the scenic Piazza della Repubblica, in the heart of Rome, just a short walk from Termini Station and the Baths of Diocletian.
The event is promoted by the Associazione Art Studio Tre, a non-profit organization active since 1989 dedicated to the promotion of art, culture, and social engagement. Alongside the exhibiting artists, the event involves various local associations, including Athenae Artis, the La Voce dell'Essere ETS association, and Stefania Pinci's art school, in a collective project that turns art into an opportunity for meeting and sharing. Over thirty contemporary Italian and international artists enliven the exhibition, including Lucilla Labianca, Stefania Pinci, Vincenzo Labianca, Alessandro Trani, and Angela Pietropaoli.
The Rome Art Festival is not just an exhibition of works: it is a widespread cultural program that weaves together multiple languages. Among the offerings, a new section dedicated to the Book Festival stands out, featuring independent publishers and authors presenting their work, alongside performances by the Teatro degli Esuli, musical acts by the group Ad Cordis, and meetings with art critics. There are also readings for children and conversations on art, literature, and the environment, designed for a wide audience and families.
Set in one of the most elegant squares in the capital, the festival brings the general public closer to contemporary art in an informal and free way. Strolling among the works displayed in the open air, meeting the artists, and attending performances is a different way to experience the center of Rome, in the Lazio region, combining cultural discovery with the pleasure of a city walk.
From May 8th to 17th, 2026, Piazza della Repubblica hosts the 71st edition of the Rome Art Festival, the historic exhibition by the Associazione Art Studio Tre. Every day, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the square transforms into an open-air gallery featuring works by over thirty contemporary artists, including paintings, sculptures, graphic art, and photography.
In addition to the exhibition, the program offers a Book Festival dedicated to independent publishers and authors, a performance by the Teatro degli Esuli on Artemisia Gentileschi, a musical performance by the group Ad Cordis, and a meeting with critic Romano Senczuk. The inauguration is set for Saturday, May 9th, at 5:00 PM, and admission is free.
