Romantic Night in Percile

A night of love in the smallest of the Lazio villages

Percile is a tiny municipality in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region, nestled in the upper Aniene valley about sixty kilometers from the capital. Entirely included in the Lucretili Mountains Regional Natural Park, the village is part of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy circuit and every summer participates in the Romantic Night, the national event that lights up over two hundred villages across the peninsula in a single evening with events dedicated to love.

What is the Romantic Night

Conceived by the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, the Romantic Night is celebrated on the Saturday closest to the summer solstice. Each participating village creates its own program, but the spirit is shared: illuminated squares and alleys, outdoor dining, readings, concerts, and installations, leading up to a collective toast and the midnight kiss that symbolically unites all the villages of Italy. In participating trattorias, the «Pensiero d'Amore» (Thought of Love) is served, the dessert symbol of the event, which changes every year.

The evening in Percile

In Percile, the formula is intentionally intimate and accessible to everyone. The evening begins in the late afternoon with a welcome aperitif in the square, continues with a romantic dinner under the stars set up outdoors in the historic center, and is accompanied by live music and a photography exhibition dedicated to the village and its people. The most photographed moment remains the romantic corner set up along the via del Bacio, one of the village's alleys that, for one night, becomes the setting for dedications, notes, and portraits.

The village and its Lagustelli

Those who come to Percile for the Romantic Night find much more than just an evening: on the eastern slope of the Lucretili Mountains, immersed in oak forests, lie the two Lagustelli, small karst lakes. The larger one, the Fraturno, measures almost one hundred and twenty meters in diameter; not far away is the Marraone. Both are protected as wetlands of international interest under the Ramsar Convention and are located within a regional estate of about nine hundred hectares of forests, clearings, and trails. It can be reached from the village with a walk of about six kilometers: an easy excursion, perfect for the afternoon preceding the festival.
